Life went on after Susan's death, and it seemed as though the family had gotten over her passing, however there were still times that the family thought about her. She had definitely been a better mother to Haruo than his biological mother and Haruo did in fact miss his step-mother. But life, of course, went on.
...and time passed.
One breakfast morning Greta looked up to see Brianna walking into the dining room.
With some surprise, she noticed that there was a distinct change in Brianna.
"You haven't told Dad yet, have you?" Greta asked.
"Nope..." Brianna said nervously. "We're still coming to terms with the surprise..." she pulled her chair back, "I didn't want to have Dad have a fit. "Financial stability is important to him and I need to be at a position where..."
"Nonsense." Greta admonished. "You need to let Dad know. I'm sure his reaction will be favourable."
"I sure hope that you're right." Brianna's nerves were not calmed at all by Greta's reassurances. All her life, Dad had always been money-conscious. He had put money into investments that had paid back a lot and he never spent money frivolously. And a child when she and Tatsuyoshi were not financially stable was probably not the best situation that she could have, but...well...she and Tatsuyoshi couldn't keep their hands off each other. Well, that's what happens. So it was with some trepidation that Brianna approached her dad in the kitchen, "Dad...I need to talk to you about something..."
She nearly chickened out when her dad turned around. He had never seemed that intimidating before.
"Dad, I don't know if you've noticed..." she gulped...noting his silent stare.
"...the fact that every morning for the past two days; you run to the washroom and throw up?" he mentioned causing Tatsuyoshi and Brianna to look at each other nervously.
He knows was Brianna's first panicked thought.
Tatsuyoshi wanted to drop through the kitchen floor when Haruo turned his head to stare at him balefully (the good ol' YOU got my daughter pregnant? You are SO DEAD! look
But all of that was fatherly intimidation. He turned to his daughter and hugged her tightly.
...and Brianna knew that it was OK...that everything would be OK.
"Understand, Tatsuyoshi, that you're going to have to get your career in high gear." Haruo warned. "Right now...Bri is four steps ahead of you and you need to catch up. Kazoku no shiji-sha ni naranai koto wa hazubeki kotodesu. It is shameful to not be the supporting member of the family." Ouch.
Yeah, might want to apply some ointment to that, Tatsuyoshi.
