It was at this point that Caeden realized he hadn't visited Dougal in a long while. So...Dougal floated around...waiting for his friend to show up. Even in his old stone-heart of his, Dougal was gratified that his old friend was a family member...that Fiona had each borne them a daughter and that the daughters had now married related family members. One big happy family...
...and waited...
...for his old friend to arrive. But there was an uneasiness around the graveyard...an ill omen...
Because as soon as Caeden arrived, he was struck by lightning.
...and before Dougal could even react with horror, Caeden was struck again...fatally.
It wasn't long before Grim appeared to claim Caeden's soul for himself. But Caeden didn't flinch...at Grim's ghastly image below the hood...and shook Grim's hand. "Thanks for giving me the opportunity to get to know my daughter...and my grandchildren." he said before leaping into the tombstone.
Haruo and River were unaware of what had just transpired at the graveyard.
But the Reaper was not done with the Chikamori family yet. Fiona had felt something wrong in her chest the past few days and chalked it up to all the stress that she was having at work. It was a tightness that had worked its way up her body like a vise that was steadily tightening. She had also felt a numbness; a tingling in her fingertips and a few pangs of indigestion. But nothing prepared her for the breath-stealing pain that overcame her. Clutching her chest, she sank to her knees and collapsed to the bathroom floor. What she didn't realize in her slowly narrowing cone of vision was that her husband Toshiyuki had also had a simultaneous myocardial infarction and had collapsed to the ground.
There was no granting of reprieve...no stay of "execution". They were done, their life was over and Grim, the ever-present master of ceremonies of doom shook his head. No pleas were accepted.
qui tollis peccata mundi, miserére nobis, súscipe de precatiónem nostram.
Sic initium factum erit finis...
